Happy #DutchAmericanHeritageDay! 🇳🇱🇺🇸 hofstrau has many ties to Dutch heritage thanks to William S. Hofstra, who founded the university from his mansion in 1935. Hofstra's mansion, which was the only campus building, is now the center of our 240-acre campus. The Hofstra storm flag is modeled after an actual Dutch geus, a privateer’s flag. While the Netherlands Royal Navy flies the original red, white and blue geus, the Hofstra version has been redesigned in the school colors of gold, white and blue. The Hofstra seal, another easily recognizable emblem, was designed from the royal Dutch emblem. The seal is modeled on the coat of arms of the House of Orange-Nassau. In 1988 one of the two lions on the seal was officially replaced with a lioness. #Hofstra4All #Hofstra
