#Tbt to a different view of one of the most photographed places in Normandy. I’ve always seen arial photos and viewpoints that accentuate the bay and tidal area around the island. I wanted to capture a view that was unique to other work I’ve seen and was lucky enough to have an awesome foreground to play with. Mont Saint Michel is a tidal island off the coast of Normandy and has held strategic fortifications since before the 8th century. The tidal waters are some of the most drastic in Europe with a 14 meter difference between tides. The fortifications have been used a monastery, a military outpost and prison throughout their long history. Mont Saint Michel was built to exemplify feudal European society with clerical quarters and chapel on top, great halls in the middle, houses and markets below and fisherman outside the gates.
