July 28th is National Buffalo Soldiers day. It commemorates the bravery and service of the first African American Army regiments. The Army Organization Act passed in 1866 by Congress allowed former slaves to serve during the Civil war. More than 180,000 African American men fought for the Union during the Civil War. In 1992 Congress passed a law making July 28th Buffalo Soldiers Day honoring those soldiers.
