Mayor H. Roe Bartle (1956-1963) was mayor of Kansas City during one of its most transformative times. A profile in Time Magazine described him as the “most imposing feature on the Kansas City landscape….outsized only by his own voice.” He was the city's mayor during the height of

#suburbanization,
#civilrightsmovement and convinced the Hunts to bring the chiefs to Kansas City. (Their first game was just east of the current day Jazz district at Municipal Stadium).
