#tbt to maddieselband playing the last abcnoriopunkhc show in current space. abcnorio has been putting on all ages DIY Hardcore/Punk matinees every saturday for over 20 years, and now they will be closing temporarily for the renovation/demolition/reconstruction of a new, state of the art building. I spent a good part of my late teens/early twenties within these walls, and the years I spent living in NYC, No Rio was my second home. It is not only one of the main venues where I cut my teeth in photography, but moe importantly it is where I made friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Even after being away for most of 10 years I still consider many of the volunteers family. I made it back up to NYC to shoot the last #saturdaymatinee, walked right in and felt like I never left. There has been a lot of sadness over the “closing”, which I totally understand, after all, no physical space has been as influential in my life as the ABC No Rio building, and it is hard to imagine how a run down ...
