Social listening is analysing the conversations and trends happening not just around your brand, but around your industry as a whole, and using those insights to make better marketing decisions. It will alert you to any
change in how much people are talking about you or the mood behind what they say.
As an example, Milani Cosmetics came under fire recently for putting out a social post about one of their products that has been mentioned in Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's court case. While they thought they were doing a decent thing, it didn't go down well with their audience who took to social to tell them so. So hopefully they've listened and will adjust their strategy accordingly.
So social listening helps you understand the sentiment around your brand which in turn can help to shape your content.
