Today we remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. This painting of my paternal grandfather - my "Morfar" - used to sit in my grandparent's house above their mantelpiece and used to scare me stupid! The eyes used to follow me everywhere. I never realised until I was older that it was actually my grandfather because by then he was bald, wore glasses and constantly had a cheeky smile. During WWII he served abroad on the anti-aircraft guns and my Mum (born in "41) was nearly three when she first met him properly. I know how lucky I was that he came back and I was able to grow up knowing him and for that, I'm ever grateful. He was a big influence on my life and I still miss him dearly. I'm currently following in my Mum's footsteps and continuing her work on our family tree. She's gone now and I'm kicking myself that I didn't get more involved in it when she was alive. So many questions! Her grandfather, also Peter Bruschan, was from Latvi...
