So many of us in perimenopause are exercising like mad and eating healthy and still seeing the fat in our bodies being redistributed and it's a tad frustrating. Researchers have found that changes in body composition accelerate during perimenopause, with a two- to fourfold increase in fat and a loss of lean body mass. Though, once menopause begins, these losses and gains do stabilise.⠀

The metabolic effect of oestrogen on our bodies means that it helps us decrease or maintain fat mass. But as oestrogen declines we begin to lose that control. I used to be able to cut out the in between meal snacks and drop a few pounds but, no more. So, unfortunately, it's time to find a new regime that will counteract this. It's time to up my game. (But please don't ask me to give up wine.)⠀
