To me, the level of inequality in the United States today is morally unconscionable. Now is the time for legislation that says yes, in the richest country on the face of the planet, seniors must be able to age with dignity — we must expand Medicare to cover hearing aids, dental care, and eyeglasses. Now is the time for legislation which says yes, it is absurd that the United States is the only major country not to guarantee workers some form of paid family and medical leave — we must end that absurdity and guarantee paid leave to workers. Now is the time to enact the most consequential legislation for the working class of this country since the days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the New Deal. Now is the time for working class solidarity. Now is the time to finally build a government which works for all of us.
