#sheshines in South Asia. * Life has been hard for Yerra Sita. Both her parents died of AIDS when she was young. She married into an arranged marriage. And after two children, her husband abandoned her. To feed herself and her children, she began giving tours around the nearby river, a site of Hindu pilgrimage. But when Yerra Sita’s neighbors forbade her from working on the river and tried to banish her from their village, she lost all hope for a better future. With nowhere to turn, she considered suicide. That’s when women from our rock quarry church stepped in. Soon, Yerra Sita found hope again—this time, lasting. Visit our Stories page to find out how.
