This Fall, seven DJDS high school students participated in a Moot Court program through a new partnership with the University of Colorado Law School. The team met with a CU Law student during the Wednesday Z-Flex period to master some of the nuances of constitutional law. Then they developed legal arguments in a hypothetical case involving a student at a fictional high school who was suspended for reading a book that had been banned by school administration. Their season culminated last week with a simulated hearing in a courtroom of the United States Court of Appeals in downtown Denver. The students argued their assigned side of the case before a panel of current judicial law clerks, who peppered them with questions just as a real judge would question the advocates in an actual case.
