The Sens have acquired Travis Hamonic from the Canucks in exchange for a 2022 3rd. Hamonic, 31, has three goals and seven points in 24 games this season. The right handed defenceman is under contract next season, making $3 million. The third rounder was acquired from Vegas in the Dadonov/Holden trade. Honestly I don’t understand this trade at all, especially if Ottawa doesn’t trade at least one of Zaitsev/Josh Brown. Hamonic has worse metrics than Brown and hasn’t been good offensively for a few years, and this is just further blocking Lassi and JBD in the minors. The Sens have said that they are looking for a top-four defenceman, and Hamonic is not that. If the Sens think he is, we’re in deep trouble. They have a bad history with pro scouting and this looks like there’s a good chance this can be added to the list.
