Despite flying under the radar for the first half of this season, Erik Brannstrom ended up having a very successful season on Ottawa’s blueline. When looking at PTS/60, a stat that looks at how many points a player would score if they played all 60 minutes of a hockey game, Brannstrom ranked 24th amongst all NHL defencemen this past season. For reference, Vegas’ Alec Martinez was 23rd to give an idea of the caliber of players that Brannstrom shared similar stats to. Chabot ranked 38th, and playing around 30 minutes most nights would have had a negative impact on his PTS/60. There are mixed opinions about how Brannstrom will develop, but I think this shows that he was very effective in limited ice time and still has plenty of room to improve for next season.
