Attacking a ball screen is a huge part of today's game. Building confidence in a player's skillset in these situations is critical. The best way to teach progressions and counters is the order in which they'll see an option. Here's the system I use to teach attacking an aggressive secondary defender. 1. The first option is always the most direct path to the easiest basket. If the defense is overplaying the screen, reject it and attack. 2. When you do use the screen, come off tight to force your defender to trail and see if the split is there. Many times you'll have space to work behind the screener's defender so the split is a great option. 3. Attack the second defender's outside hip to try to get yourself around the screen defense and back downhill. 4. If you can't get downhill, try to drag the second defender further away from the original action to force a late switch. If they didn't switch right away, most times that means there is a mismatch for one of the two offensive players...
