"I don't know what to do." How many times do you hear your child say this? We hear it a lot as the children adjust to being self-directed in the classroom. We solved this dilemma by working with the children to create lists of their favorite things to do at school. They are welcome to do anything in the classroom, but when they are stumped they can look at their list. Now, the children can frequently be found carrying their lists with them or getting them out and referring to them. We created the lists with words and pictures for the children that are not yet reading. This is a tool that can be used at home as well to combat boredom.
