OK, vulnerable post here. When my daughter first started school, a friend asked me why I wasn't homeschooling her. She was surprised when I told her that even though I'm an educator, I didn't feel I could provide her the experiences they could at school. I also told my friend I had to go to work, so how could I homeschool her? WOW, if only I could go back and talk to 34 year old me! I wish I had someone to tell me I didn't have to have all the answers or be a stay at home mom in order to homeschool my daughter. I wish there had been someone to guide me. Now that I've been a classroom teacher and a homeschool teacher, I can see how much more my daughter could have experienced. The learning that my students achieve is so deep and meaningful. It's also suited to their interests and abilities in a way that's virtually impossible in a classroom of 22+ students.
