So my husband, clarinetist/photographer Chip Phillips (chipphillipsphoto), our 3-year-old son, and I took a vaporetto water bus to the Venetian island of Burano. Burano is much less crowded than the center of Venice, and is famous for its technicolor houses. Legend has it that long ago, the fishermen painted their houses these bright colors so they'd be able to find their way home in thick fog. And it became tradition.
