We are able to celebrate Pride Month because transgender civil rights pioneers Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera (Black and Latino transgender activists) led the Stonewall uprising in 1969. Those riots launched the Gay Rights movement and began the mobilization of an oppressed community. Today Black and Latinx people, including LGBTQ+ people, are once again repeating history by standing up for the lives of Black people.
