On today’s Field Trip, usfws wildlife biologists Alicia Thomas and Razia Shafique-Sabir take us on a tour of a wildlife refuge located 227 ft below sea level along the southern end of the Salton Sea.
Established in 1930, the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge has served as important bird habitat for an estimated 400 different species of birds. The variety of different habitats and land features you can find within the refuge are desert shrubs, upland trees, wetlands, cattail marshes, a saline sea and the occasional volcano.
Follow our Instagram stories throughout the day to get a glimpse of this national wildlife refuge and all its wonders.
