Today is
#WorldWaterDay!
This year's theme is "Groundwater - Making the Invisible Visible."
For much of its history, the Colorado River Delta supplied the Mexicali Valley with ample
#groundwater, making it a fertile wetlands region. As civilization in North America spread westward, excessive damning upstream has turned the region into a desolate plain, with practically no
#freshwater making it all the way to the Delta. These massive tree patterns are all that remains of the Delta's ancient river channels that once teamed with life.
I flew my powered
#paraglider 6,000 feet above the Delta to capture these images with my handheld camera. Even at this height, the patterns were so vast that I had to stitch multiple photos together in order to fit them into a single photo.
