We had been on the boat almost two weeks when we passed this rock formation, which might have a name (or maybe not). Islands like these would frequently appear out of the mist and fog, like a pirate ship, with their jagged edges covered in seabirds and their lower rocks draped with sea lions. The sounds of the birds and mammals would also fade in and out with the mist. I’m always amazed that somehow the wildlife knows where to find these tiny specks of rock to rest and nest. In these hostile waters, it is exactly what they need and why it is so important they are protected as part of Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Stream #TheLastUnknown, on #discoveryplus.
