The eastern slopes of the North Cascades can receive significant snowfall. Cold Arctic air flows south from Canada through the Okanogan River valley into the the bowl-like basin east of the Cascades. Cold air damming can cause more snow in these passes than in higher areas of the range. Along these eastern slopes, the Brown family plans to build their new home.
