“I was walking home along Central Park West when I noticed movement in a nearby tree. This young raccoon (called a kit) was shuffling around in a tree den and after about 20 minutes, poked its head out and made eye contact with my lens. . . I’ve passed this tree dozens of times since that day and have not witnessed any new sightings. Unfortunately this raccoon may have been affected by canine distemper, which has killed more than 80 Central Park raccoons over the last few months.
