Photo and text by Corey Arnold arni_coraldo | Near Adak island, Alaska out west in the Bering Sea I snapped this image of the f/v Alaska Knight, a trawler out on a 3 week journey at sea hunting Atka Mackerel. Fishing “out West” as we call the remote, unpredictable waters West of Dutch Harbor is a lonely endeavor. The seas are on average, ferocious and with few boats available to assist if things go wrong. Smaller “catcher” vessels like these pass their full nets over to motherships which process and freeze the fish at sea so they can remain on the grounds fishing for longer periods of time. . .
