Photo and text by Corey Arnold arni_coraldo | 58,000,000 sockeye salmon returned to Bristol Bay, Alaska this year. It was one of the biggest returns in decades, supporting jobs for thousands of Alaska Natives, commercial, and sport fishermen. Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency has decided to roll back its previous assessment that a massive proposed copper mine known as Pebble Mine could have a catastrophic affects future salmon reproduction in the Bay. Today is the last day of the EPA’s public comment period, and you can find an easy link to voice your concern on my profile arni_coraldo. Pictured here is ktenkley of iliamnafishco, a lifelong Kvichak set netter and one of the toughest female fishermen in the Bay.
