Photo and text by Ben Mikha BenMikha | Quite possibly my most amusing photo. This is the famous DC plane wreck on the black sands of Sólheimasandur, Iceland. I was on my internship with discoveryaus and had traveled from New York to Reykavik via Berlin, Germany. Upon arrival, I noticed my Suitcase hadn’t come through. I enquired with the airline staff who said all the bags had been unloaded and they weren’t sure what had happened to mine?! A couple of phone calls later and my suitcase had been declared lost. Perfect as I was in Iceland, an arctic country and all my warm clothing, essentials and chargers/cords were in that bag. I travelled around Iceland for the duration of the trip in a hotel bath robe (the one I’m wearing in this picture) and used it to break the ice cold winds. I still managed to survive 5 long days out in the rugged landscapes using only a robe and a shirt, hiking through valleys, glaciers and exploring waterfalls.
