Hailing from Virginia, Merrick was a multi-sport athlete at Frank W Cox high school having played baseball, golf, ran track and field and volleyball. Merrick was an opposite hitter and setter for coastal757 before being recruited to rmcmensvolleyball where he would go on to set. Merrick would later coach for playtva helping with girls club volleyball as well as camps and clinics. Little known fact, Merrick is also a classically trained pianist. . . .
