Power up, it's Wattage Wednesday! Gundremmingen Nuclear Power Plant, located in Bavaria, Germany, includes Units B and C, both of which are boiling water reactors. Historically, these units have been significant contributors to the region's electricity supply, providing a stable and substantial source of low-carbon energy. Unit B commenced operations in 1984 and Unit C in 1985. Both were shut down prematurely in 2021 following Germany's nuclear phaseout. Hopefully Germany will choose to restart these units, but at this current moment no plans have been announced. By providing a reliable source of clean energy, units B and C could help in reducing reliance on fossil fuels, thus lowering greenhouse gas emissions. A restart would signify a commitment to diversifying energy sources, enhancing energy security, and moving towards a more sustainable energy future.
