For the Flag. The Maple Leaf Pub in Midtown Houston was buzzing ahead of Canada’s second group stage match after a 36-year absence. This pub is typically a hotspot for hockey throughout the year, but today, it opened its doors early for Canadian soccer fans to enjoy the World Cup and sip on some classic Canadian Caesar’s throughout the morning. Les Rouges fans in Houston turned up in style, bringing along valuable memorabilia for good luck and to share with their fellow countrymen. Rise SC youth goalkeeper Matthew Morrison brought along a special flag with him that bore the signatures of Canada NT players since 2016. One of the signatures was coincidentally Allysha Chapman’s, who’d won the Olympic medal with Canada in 2021, and was also present at the pub for this match. Despite the loss, Canadians everywhere can be proud of their team, and these group stage matches will surely be remembered by every fan for the rest of their lives.
