#JamesCameron loves deep sea exploration so much that he personally made 33 dives to the #Titanic wreckage site over the years.
In 2009, he spoke to @playboy about his motivation behind making the hit 1997 film, and said it was "because I wanted to dive to the shipwreck, not because I particularly wanted to make the movie."
Cameron explained, “The Titanic was the Mount Everest of shipwrecks, and as a diver I wanted to do it right. When I learned some other guys had dived to the Titanic to make an IMAX movie, I said, ‘I’ll make a Hollywood movie to pay for an expedition and do the same thing.'”
He's made dozens of dives since filming the movie, and in 2012, he went to the Mariana Trench in a 24-foot submersible vehicle he designed, which is considered one of the deepest spots in the Earth’s oceans. When he got to 27,000 feet, which was the deepest he'd ever dived before, there were still 9,000 feet to go to the ocean floor.
