Hayes's social media post caught the attention of Marcie Allen Van Mol and her husband Derek, owners of AB Hillsboro Village. When Marcie Allen heard what happened, she was sick to her stomach, which is why the pair decided to throw Hayes and their friends an "all-inclusive" prom where they can "feel safe to express themselves."
The prom will be held at their event space on May 6, with a performance by local R&B artist
#ToneStith. Marcie Allen and Derek created a
#GoFundMe page to raise money, and are so close to reaching their $40,000 goal. They said any leftover funds will be split equally for donation to Hayes's charities of choice.
