One woman said, “I actually lost a few friendships over this because my friend’s moms didn’t want them hanging out with someone who was already ‘developed,'” while another voiced about being "sexually harassed at school for having boobs" at age 11.
Mahaliah Little, assistant professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies, believes people assume "puberty is this time when girls start wielding their power and try to seduce people, when in actuality you feel powerless." She explained how difficult it is for children to understand they "go from being seen as neutral to being seen as a threat" without internalizing shame about how they look.
