TV writer
#JeremyShipp was inspired by his son Henry's experience with undergoing surgeries for a cleft lip and palate. Now, he's honoring him on the popular cartoon
#Firebuds.
Henry's dad says his son notices that in TV shows and movies, people with facial differences are often portrayed as villainous, making him feel bad.
As a writer on the
#DisneyJunior cartoon, Shipp pitched a story introducing a new car character,
#Castor, who has a "cleft hood."
He "really wanted to do a story that honored [Henry] and that showed a character that looked a little bit like him, that was positive and happy, had friends and was happy-go-lucky."
'Firebuds' will also introduce a wheelchair car character,
#Gliderbella, which will center on the main character who has spina bifida.
