The Countess of Wessex is in Kosovo to find out more about work to support survivors of sexual violence after the conflict in 1998-1999. The Countess has carried out engagements in recent months focused on supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in conflict, since pledging her commitment to making the #WomenPeaceSecurity agenda and the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) a central pillar of her work. The 1998-99 conflict in Kosovo resulted in thousands of women, men and children becoming victims of conflict-related sexual violence. Today, stigma still remains a challenge as victims of conflict-based sexual violence fear family rejection and societal discrimination.
