“With our best wishes for Christmas 1914. May God protect you and bring you home safe”. In 1914, King George V and Queen Mary sent Christmas cards to all members of the British Armed Forces. Three versions were produced; one for the Army (350,000), for which The King was photographed in Khaki, one for the Navy (250,000), on which he is portrayed in Naval uniform, and another for the sick and wounded (60,000), using the same photographs as on the Army's card, but with a special message with good wishes for their recovery.
