Today The Queen will arrive in Edinburgh for
#HolyroodWeek. HM will stay in the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the Monarchy in Scotland.
Founded in 1128 as a religious house by David I of Scotland, Holyrood took its name from a relic of the Holy Cross (rood), it was then made into a Palace by James IV in 1501. Mary, Queen of Scots spent much of her life in the Palace – this postcard from royal_collection_trust is a souvenir from 1911 that commemorates 'The Two Mary's' after Queen Mary, George V's wife, visited the Palace.
