In power for 30 years, Bashir is wanted for crimes by the ICC, and has driven a kind and prosperous country into the ground. Sudan’s troubles have been felt most keenly - as always - by the people, and they’ve had enough. They have had *enough*. Since April 6th, there’s been a sit-in a la Tahrir Square, in front the military HQ in Khartoum. 15 people have been murdered since - one of those my cousin, Maab Hanafi. The human cost of revolution is steep. I am still learning how to hold the grief, figuring out how to cradle death and live life at the same time. There are such mixed feelings, being Sudanese but so far from the action. I wish I could be there, to be a part of it all, but I also know that it is not necessarily my place.
