🎨 In celebration of Women's History Month 🎨 Elaine de Kooning (1920-1989) was an American Abstract Expressionist and Figurative Expressionist painter as well as an art critic, and a teacher. De Kooning got involved with a group of avant-garde artists in New York which included her husband Willem de Kooning. Through this exposure, her own style shifted from figurative to abstraction. Some of her most famous work included a portrait commissioned by the US President John F. Kennedy and abstract expressionist paintings inspired by cave paintings.
