I’ve always shied away from talking about “working motherhood.” Whether you work outside the home, from home (which I guess is most of us now?), or work as a stay-at-home mom, all motherhood is hard. There’s no use pitting one group of us against another.
However, I don’t ever want to shy away from acknowledging the village behind me that allows me to be both a mom *and* a woman who gets to do work I love.
I am a strong believer that we cannot pretend that we’ve garnered success on our own. We must acknowledge the privilege that we have and the village that supports us in getting there.
There’s Becci, who joined us as Finnley’s au pair when he was 6 months old. Becci became family and made our life so much fuller. I cried tears when it came time for her to leave us and I am so thankful that she’s still a part of our lives.
There’s Evelyn, Theodore’s beloved nanny. She’s a precious mom herself. We loved her from day one and, since she’s back in San Francisco, miss her tons!
