CONGRATULATIONS to our own Emmanuella Ngozi Asabor, MD-PhD student in Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases, and Shannon Whittaker, PhD student in Social and Behavioral Sciences, who are joining Health Policy Research Scholars, a program for doctoral students who are committed to using research to advance health equity through policy change and build a #CultureofHealth. Emmanuella will focus on how moving beyond race, class, and geography as inherent risk factors to an understanding of racism, classism, and segregation allows for more accurate disease modeling and illuminates points of intervention within the healthcare system Shannon hopes to produce research that centers community empowerment and influences the development of equitable policy to enact neighborhood-level change as it relates to gentrification and other urban change processes. #myYSPH
