One thing not as often discussed is how HPV impacts the LGBTQ+ community. For example, rates of cervical cancer are as high for lesbians and bisexual women as for heterosexual women and studies have found that lesbians have significantly lower cervical cancer screening rates. Additionally, the majority of transgender men do not undergo complete sex reassignment surgery and still retain a cervix if a total hysterectomy is not performed, leaving them still at risk for cervical cancer. It’s imperative to emphasize the importance of regular screening while also working to address the structural and interpersonal barriers that prevent access to this needed care #ysph #ysphtakeover
