This week, I made a step towards completing my HPV vaccine series. Although the HPV vaccine was originally marketed as a cervical cancer vaccine, it can actually prevent multiple types of cancer and genital warts present in both males and females. Because of this and because HPV is transmitted sexually, it is important for both boys and girls to receive the vaccine as pre-adolescents before possible exposure for the greatest effect. However, there has been lower coverage for this vaccine compared to other adolescent vaccines for a number of reasons. Part of my work in public health is countering that resistance and working to quantify how effective the vaccine has been to better inform the public about it #ysph #ysphtakeover
