All set for a day of sciencing! Today I’m isolating viral RNA from patient samples that have tested positive for Rhinovirus (aka the common cold). We’ll be using these as controls to make sure that our multi-step procedure for identifying respiratory viruses is working smoothly and efficiently. Once we’re sure we’ve ironed out all the kinks, I’ll start processing my real samples- patients with unknown or unidentified viruses! (PS this is my hood at its absolute neatest- you don’t want to see what it looks like 2 hours into an experiment!
