Not US Open Cup related, but still fun ...Today in #USsoccer history (June 5, 1982): At Lockhart Stadium, #DadeCounty construction worker Gene Vidal, a season ticket holder, showed up to watch his Fort Lauderdale Strikers take on the Portland #Timbers. When he walked into the stadium with his son Scott, he was greeted by a man in a white tuxedo who performed a singing telegram to inform him that he was the one millionth Strikers fan. He won the following prize package: * 4 tickets for next million Striker games ($32 million value!) * Year's supply of #CocaCola * 32 record albums * A #WonderWoman telephone * Cruise tickets * 4 shock absorbers * #NASL pajamas NOTE: Unfortunately for Mr. Vidal (and thousands of other Strikers fans), the Strikers only played about 30 more home games before relocating to Minnesota after the 1983 season, and the league folded after the 1984 season.
