The Rosewood massacre of 1923 demonstrated the horrors of living in the American South. The race riot broke out due to a rumor against a black man in town, resulting in a white mob forming to attack him. The intensity of the riots resulted in the town being burnt to the ground and numerous African Americans being killed.
