Repost from our founder davidslindsay "During the first week of December 1988-- and an opening night of my senior basketball season-- I was diagnosed with acute leukemia. Two days later, I receive an unexpected call in my hospital bed from one of my lifelong heroes, Coach Dean Smith. He encouraged me to have hope and courage. He also told me that the Heels were dedicating that evening's game vs Vanderbilt to me. The Heels won that night (89-77) and here's my son, Hank holding the game ball. As a scared 18-year old kid facing #cancer, Coach Smith's act of compassion was the boost I needed to imagine a different future, one in which I could still live and bleed Tarheel blue. #deansmith #unc #PLM
