Meet Lizzie Smith, an Early Childhood Development graduate and a future Child Life Specialist. ⭐ This summer Lizzie is completing her final internship at Wolfson Children's Hospital with certified Child Life Specialist, Mary Lauren Upchurch, under the guidance of Dr. Katrina Hall, the UNF Intern Coordinator for the Child Life Program. Child Life Specialists play a vital role in pediatric healthcare, helping children and families cope with illness and hospitalization. Through their training in child development, they use play to help children express their anxieties related to treatment, illness, procedures, or hospital stays. The collaboration between the Early Childhood program and the Psychology department has paved the way for students like Lizzie to pursue their passion for helping young patients.
