Seventy years ago, the Fifty-Fathoms was born. As legend has it, @blancpain1735’s CEO at the time, Jean-Jacques Fiechter, was diving off the coast of Cannes when he unexpectedly ran out of air. After returning safely to land, he had the idea to build a watch specifically suited to the needs of divers and the rest is history. Since then, the Fifty-Fathoms has been used by the most serious of divers from Jacques Cousteau to the U.S. military. The anniversary celebration is coming to #SothebysNewYork in December, as a selection of models past culminating with the Fifty-Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 3—Number 70 in honor of the anniversary year—head to auction. Full proceeds from the auction of that most recent Blancpain will benefit @Oceana, whose charitable and notable work is dedicated solely to ocean conservation.
