Happy New Year! 2021 saw many new records set for Sotheby's Watches, achieving the highest-ever annual total for watches at Sotheby's with over $142 million in sales, a 50% increase over 2020. Plus, 46% of buyers were completely new to Sotheby's!
No recap would be complete without this extremely rare and previously unknown Patek Philippe ‘Pink on Pink’ Reference 1518, which soared to $9.6 million in its world auction debut and set a world auction record for any wristwatch ever sold at Sotheby’s, a record for any watch sold at auction this year, and the third highest price ever achieved for any vintage wristwatch sold at auction.
As a result, the December Important Watches auction reached a historic $24.4 million, the highest-ever New York sale total.
