Making its grand debut at Basel in 2007 in celebration of the Aquanaut’s ten-year anniversary, PatekPhilippe delivered another exciting revamp of one of the most celebrated contemporary watches of today – reference 5167, featuring a more modern case size of 40 mm. Further improvements seen on the 5167 include the removal of the hour marker at 3 o’clock. This then allows the date window to be positioned slightly closer to the center of the dial, thus allowing space for a luminous marker on the watch’s chapter ring. Perhaps the most significant change to this generation of the Aquanaut, though, was the addition of the “Tropical” rubber strap. This strap, unlike the traditional strap of the 5167’s predecessor, is an integrated strap that securely hugs the case.
